ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium — Advanced Review
The most complete smart thermostat on the market, and the safest bet whatever ecosystem you live in.
The verdict
Independent testing labs give the Premium strong scores across manual control, automation, and smart features, and launch reviews landed on it as a clear improvement over an already-leading thermostat. Major technology reviewers keep it at the top of their rankings for the radar occupancy sensor, the remote SmartSensor in the box, and the rare feat of running HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and Matter simultaneously. Reviewer criticisms center on ecobee nudging some features toward subscriptions and an installation that wants a C-wire — though the power extender kit is included.

- Long-term value. Up to 26% claimed HVAC savings; owners report payback within one to two seasons
What reviewers praise
- Remote room sensor included
- Works with every major ecosystem
- Built-in air quality monitor
- Zinc-and-glass build quality
Worth knowing
- Some features gated behind subscription
- Install needs C-wire or included adapter
Price and value
$259.99 is the top of the category, but the bundled SmartSensor and documented energy savings close the gap within a couple of heating seasons.
How it compares
Against the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) it trades Google's sleeker hardware for wider ecosystem support and air-quality monitoring; ecobee's cheaper Essential drops the radar sensor, speaker, and bundled SmartSensor that justify the Premium.
The bottom line
The most complete smart thermostat on the market, and the safest bet whatever ecosystem you live in.
How this review works
This isn't one editor's opinion. MyBase's Advanced Review is our own AI-synthesized editorial assessment: it draws on the published verdicts of the industry's most trusted independent expert reviewers and testing publications, alongside large pools of verified-owner reviews, and weighs them together into a single clear verdict. Expert testing is weighed alongside real-world owner consensus, so the rating reflects how a product actually performs — not how it's marketed.
