Oral-B iO Series 9 — Advanced Review
The feature-rich flagship for people who want coaching feedback and a premium brushing experience and will pay for it.
The verdict
The iO Series 9 is routinely positioned as Oral-B's flagship and a top-rated electric toothbrush, with its rating reflecting strong consensus on cleaning performance and feedback design. Reviewers credit its redesigned micro-vibrating magnetic drive for a quieter, gentler feel than older oscillating Oral-B brushes while still removing plaque effectively, and the real-time pressure sensor plus interactive display genuinely help users improve technique. Large owner pools echo the premium feel, the satisfying smart-ring guidance, and the multiple cleaning modes. It stops just short of a perfect score mainly because the abundant smart features command a high price that not everyone needs.
Rated by category
- Cleaning Performance. The frictionless magnetic-drive motor with micro-vibrations delivers a noticeably smoother, thorough clean that owners consistently praise.
- Smart Features. Real-time position-detection display and pressure sensor are genuinely useful, though the app is optional and battery-draining for some.
- Build & Display. Premium feel with a color OLED screen, but it's bulky, and brush heads are pricier than competitors'.
- Value. Flagship pricing plus costly iO-specific refills make ongoing ownership expensive relative to the actual cleaning gain over cheaper iO models.
What reviewers praise
- quiet, gentle magnetic drive
- effective plaque removal
- smart pressure sensor and guidance display
- premium build and multiple modes
Worth knowing
- expensive for a toothbrush
- proprietary iO brush heads cost more than standard refills
Price and value
At $200-300 list (frequently discounted to ~$150-180) it's a premium buy; worth it for those who want the best feel and features, but hard to justify over a mid-tier iO for pure cleaning.
How it compares
It's Oral-B's best-feeling brush and a strong rival to Philips Sonicare's DiamondClean flagship, though the Sonicare's quieter sonic action and cheaper heads make it the better long-term value for many.
The bottom line
The feature-rich flagship for people who want coaching feedback and a premium brushing experience and will pay for it.
How this review works
This isn't one editor's opinion. MyBase's Advanced Review is our own AI-synthesized editorial assessment: it draws on the published verdicts of the industry's most trusted independent expert reviewers and testing publications, alongside large pools of verified-owner reviews, and weighs them together into a single clear verdict. Expert testing is weighed alongside real-world owner consensus, so the rating reflects how a product actually performs — not how it's marketed.
