Braun Series 9 Pro+ — Advanced Review
The benchmark foil shaver for anyone who wants a salon-close result with minimal irritation and doesn't mind paying for it.
The verdict
The Series 9 Pro+ sits at the top of foil-shaver rankings, and its high rating reflects near-unanimous expert and owner agreement that it delivers one of the closest, most comfortable shaves available. Testers repeatedly highlight its multi-element cutting head that captures flat-lying and awkward hairs in fewer passes, plus a powerful motor that handles dense, multi-day growth without tugging. Long-term owner reviews back up the durability and the convenience of the cleaning-and-charging dock, which keeps the foils sanitized and ready. It's a frequent 'best electric shaver' recommendation precisely because comfort and closeness rarely come together this consistently.
Rated by category
- Closeness. Among the closest foil shaves available; the five cutting elements handle dense, flat-lying stubble exceptionally well.
- Comfort & Skin Sensitivity. Gentle even on sensitive skin, especially wet with gel; a top pick for those prone to irritation.
- Battery & Cleaning. Roughly 60 min runtime and fast USB-C charging; the SmartCare/clean-and-charge dock is excellent but pricey to refill.
- Value. Premium performance at a premium price; replacement cassettes and cleaning cartridges add meaningful ongoing cost.
What reviewers praise
- exceptionally close, comfortable shave
- handles dense multi-day growth
- self-cleaning charge dock
- gentle on sensitive skin
Worth knowing
- premium price, especially with the cleaning station
- replacement foil/cutter cassettes are expensive
Price and value
At $250-330 (and higher with the clean station) it's expensive, but it's a premium-but-worth-it choice for thick-bearded users who want the closest, most comfortable foil shave.
How it compares
It's the top foil shaver, beating Panasonic's Arc5 on comfort and reduced irritation, though Panasonic counters with a faster, more aggressive cut and a lower entry price.
The bottom line
The benchmark foil shaver for anyone who wants a salon-close result with minimal irritation and doesn't mind paying for it.
