Dyson V15 Detect — Advanced Review
The cordless vacuum to buy when you want top-tier cleaning power and don't mind paying for it.
The verdict
The V15 Detect earns its standing because reviewers consistently rank it among the best-performing cordless vacuums they test, with independent reviewers citing class-leading suction and strong deep-cleaning across both carpet and hard floors. Independent lab testing quantifies that reputation, measuring excellent debris pickup and confirming the signature laser dust-illumination and the piezo particle sensor that counts and sizes debris on the LCD screen, features owners single out as genuinely useful rather than gimmicks. Across a very large owner-review pool the consensus mirrors the experts: powerful, versatile, and well-built, with the anti-tangle conical brush bar repeatedly praised for handling hair. The 4.7 reflects broad agreement that it's a top-tier performer, tempered only by the practical caveats every reviewer flags.
Rated by category
- Suction Power. Class-leading pickup on both carpet and hard floor; still the benchmark cordless stick many rivals are measured against.
- Laser & Dust Sensing. The green laser genuinely reveals fine dust and the particle-count LCD is useful, if partly a party trick.
- Battery & Runtime. Up to ~60 minutes with a swappable pack, but max-suction mode drains it fast.
- Value. Expensive and heavy in the hand; the performance is real but you pay a steep Dyson premium.
What reviewers praise
- class-leading suction and deep-cleaning
- laser dust illumination on hard floors
- particle-counting LCD display
- effective anti-tangle brush bar
Worth knowing
- premium price
- limited runtime at max power and a fairly small bin
The newer answer
Dyson V16 Piston Animal. Its CleanCompaktor compression bin (holds roughly 3x more debris, up to 60 days of dust) and up-to-70-minute runtime directly address the V15's small bin and limited runtime.
Still premium-priced at about $980, and early reviews found the redesigned floorhead trailed the V15 in some suction tests.
Price and value
Typically $650-750 (often discounted toward $500), it is premium-but-worth-it for a deep-cleaning, do-it-all cordless — just know cheaper Tineco and even Dyson's own older models cover most homes for less.
How it compares
It beats the Tineco Pure One and Shark Stratos on raw suction and detail cleaning, but those rivals and the lighter Dyson V12 offer better value if you don't need the absolute top-tier power.
The bottom line
The cordless vacuum to buy when you want top-tier cleaning power and don't mind paying for it.
How this review works
This isn't one editor's opinion. MyBase's Advanced Review is our own AI-synthesized editorial assessment: it draws on the published verdicts of the industry's most trusted independent expert reviewers and testing publications, alongside large pools of verified-owner reviews, and weighs them together into a single clear verdict. Expert testing is weighed alongside real-world owner consensus, so the rating reflects how a product actually performs — not how it's marketed.
