JBL Charge 6 — Advanced Review
The default pick for anyone who wants one tough, loud, long-lasting speaker for the backyard, beach, or trail.
The verdict
The Charge 6 earns its 4.7 by extending JBL's most trusted portable formula: lab-style measurements in independent labs and hands-on listening among leading reviewers consistently land on a punchy, bass-forward tuning that stays clean at volume, while independent testing labs' durability and battery testing back up the long runtime and rugged IP68 build. Reviewers single out the new USB-C powerbank passthrough and the move to a removable, replaceable-friendly design as genuine generational upgrades over the Charge 5. Expert outlets praise its all-day stamina and weatherproofing, and the large verified-owner pool echoes the same verdict on value and reliability. Across a very large owner-review pool the consensus is remarkably stable: this is the do-everything outdoor speaker that rarely disappoints.
Rated by category
- Sound. Punchy, bass-forward JBL signature that fills a room; new AI Sound Boost tightens the low end without distortion.
- Battery & Powerbank. 28 hours plus USB-C powerbank out; genuinely a day-and-a-half speaker that charges your phone.
- Durability. IP68 dust and water rating now with a removable strap; survives pool, beach and drops.
- Value. Great all-rounder, but priced above the outgoing Charge 5 with only incremental sonic gains.
What reviewers praise
- big, clean bass-forward sound
- rugged IP68 dust/waterproofing
- very long battery life with powerbank passthrough
- Auracast multi-speaker pairing
Worth knowing
- fairly large and heavy for a 'portable'
- tuning is bass-emphasized rather than neutral
Price and value
At roughly $200 it is the pricier end of the mid-size rugged category, but the 28-hour battery, IP68 build and integrated powerbank make it a defensible buy rather than a name premium.
How it compares
It out-lasts and out-muscles the Bose SoundLink Flex and Sonos Roam 2 on battery and bass; those rivals win on refinement and, in Sonos's case, multi-room ecosystem.
The bottom line
The default pick for anyone who wants one tough, loud, long-lasting speaker for the backyard, beach, or trail.
How this review works
This isn't one editor's opinion. MyBase's Advanced Review is our own AI-synthesized editorial assessment: it draws on the published verdicts of the industry's most trusted independent expert reviewers and testing publications, alongside large pools of verified-owner reviews, and weighs them together into a single clear verdict. Expert testing is weighed alongside real-world owner consensus, so the rating reflects how a product actually performs — not how it's marketed.
