Herman Miller Aeron Chair — Advanced Review
The gold-standard task chair for anyone who sits at a desk all day and wants support that lasts a decade.
The verdict
The Aeron is the perennial benchmark in ergonomic seating, and the consensus reflects decades of refinement rather than hype. Leading reviewers have long named it a top pick, praising the breathable 8ZPellicle mesh and the PostureFit SL lumbar support that holds the pelvis in a healthy position during long sitting sessions. Expert reviewers and the enormous pool of verified owners align on the same conclusions: exceptional long-term durability backed by a 12-year warranty, genuinely adjustable support across three frame sizes, and build quality that survives a decade of daily use. The near-perfect score comes from how consistently it delivers on the one thing a task chair must do — keep you comfortable and supported for eight-plus hours.
Rated by category
- Ergonomic Support. PostureFit SL and 8Z Pellicle deliver best-in-class lumbar support for long sessions.
- Build Quality. Tank-like construction backed by a 12-year warranty; routinely lasts a decade-plus.
- Adjustability. Excellent on fully-loaded models, but base configs skip arm/tilt options and sizing is fixed A/B/C.
- Value. Superb chair, but the steep price and fabric-only mesh (no cushion option) hold it back.
What reviewers praise
- breathable mesh that runs cool
- adjustable PostureFit SL lumbar support
- outstanding long-term durability
- 12-year warranty
Worth knowing
- very high price
- no headrest and limited seat padding may not suit everyone
Price and value
At roughly $1,300-$1,800 depending on config, it is a serious investment, but the durability, warranty, and resale value make it premium-but-worth-it for anyone sitting all day.
How it compares
It's the safe long-haul pick over the Steelcase Leap and Gesture, though the Leap arguably wins on out-of-the-box adjustability and cushioned seating for the money.
The bottom line
The gold-standard task chair for anyone who sits at a desk all day and wants support that lasts a decade.
How this review works
This isn't one editor's opinion. MyBase's Advanced Review is our own AI-synthesized editorial assessment: it draws on the published verdicts of the industry's most trusted independent expert reviewers and testing publications, alongside large pools of verified-owner reviews, and weighs them together into a single clear verdict. Expert testing is weighed alongside real-world owner consensus, so the rating reflects how a product actually performs — not how it's marketed.
