Turn any link into a card that fits your page
Paste a link and MyBase draws a card for it: a player, a feed or a branded tile. What each kind does, how to style it, and what a card cannot do.

A bare address on a page looks like something you forgot to finish. A card looks like a decision. Paste a link into MyBase and it draws one: a player or a grid that plays on the page, or a card that opens the link.
This post covers the three kinds of card, which links play and which only open, how to make a card yours, and the limit that matters most: hiding a card is not the same as making it private.
What happens when you paste a link
You paste an address into the Widget Studio. MyBase works out which kind of card the link deserves and draws it on your own device. Nothing is sent to MyBase while you look; the link only reaches us when you add or save the card.
The kind depends on the site behind the link, not on a setting. Every link becomes one of three.
Three kinds of card
| Kind | Which links | What a visitor gets |
|---|---|---|
| Plays on the page | An Instagram profile, or a video, track, post or pin from YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Spotify, SoundCloud, X or Pinterest | The platform's own player, post or grid |
| Branded card | Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, Twitch, Substack, Apple Music and more | A card wearing the platform's real mark that opens the link |
| Site card | Any other website | A card that opens the link, wearing that site's own icon on your page |
Plays. A Spotify playlist plays where it sits, a video plays in the card once it is pressed, and an Instagram profile becomes a grid of its latest posts that the platform keeps current.
Branded. Around thirty platforms have a card wearing their real mark. Where there is nothing we can show honestly on your page, the card does one job and opens the link. A door, not a window.
Site. Any other website gets a card built from its own icon, with a monogram as the fallback, so even a site we have never heard of looks deliberate. On your page the card wears the site's own icon. In the studio, a link you have only pasted shows a letter instead, so the site is not contacted while you look.
What plays on the page and what does not
Those are all the links that play. The edges, plainly:
- A single Instagram post or reel does not play. It becomes a branded Instagram card that opens the link, because Instagram shows it blank to visitors who are not signed in. Paste the profile to get the grid.
- From Pinterest, only a single pin plays. A board or a profile becomes a branded Pinterest card that opens the link.
- Short share links do not play. A pin.it or vm.tiktok.com link is a redirect, so it opens as a card instead. Paste the full address of the pin or the video.
- Apple Music gets a branded card but does not play. It carries the mark and opens the link. Spotify and SoundCloud links play, and the Apple Music card can sit beside them.
- Calendly and Cal.com have their own Booking section in your page editor, which gives you a booking button. Pasted into the studio, either one is just another site card.
Embeds wait to be pressed
Every embed waits for a visitor to press it. Until then it is a card, and no player or feed from the platform has loaded. The exception is a visitor who has allowed embedded feeds in their cookie preferences: for them a widget loads on its own.
So a page with a playlist, a video and a feed does not start three players while someone is still reading your first line. Once a visitor presses, or has allowed feeds, the platform sees the visit, and the studio says so under the card. A site card also asks the linked site for its small icon when your page draws, so that site sees a request from the visitor's browser.
MyBase fetches nothing and prints no follower or like numbers on a card. Once a visitor presses, or has allowed feeds, the platform's own player or grid shows whatever that platform normally shows there, and that can include its own counts.
The Widget Studio
The Widget Studio is where you try all of this before it touches your page. Paste a link and the card is drawn on your own device. Switch the preview between desktop and phone, and set the width on your page to full, half or quarter. Half and quarter apply where a page lays its sections out side by side; on a phone, or on a page that stacks its sections, every card is full width.
Signed in, My widgets lists every widget you have, on your page or kept off it, and every change saves as you make it. Saved looks keep a frame, a colour and what the card shows under a name, to use on one card or on every widget. A profile keeps up to twelve.
A layout to copy, for a video, a playlist and a newsletter. On a phone it all stacks, so check the phone preview too.
- Full width: the video you want pressed first.
- Half width, side by side: the playlist and the newsletter card.
- Quarter width: a short row of small cards for everywhere else you post.
One limit explains that layout. A TikTok, X post or Pinterest pin needs room to play, and in a quarter-width cell on a desktop page it shows a link to the platform instead. YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify and SoundCloud play at any width.
Make it yours
Three things are yours to set: a frame, a colour, and what the card shows. The colour can be solid, a fade or a gradient. The card can show your own title, your own note and the platform's mark, each one on or off.
The note does a caption's work. Wording to borrow:
| Card | Title | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify playlist | The playlist I write to | All instrumental, so it stays out of the way of the words. |
| YouTube video | Start here | The one video that explains my whole setup. |
| Instagram profile | This week | Straight from my feed, nothing for me to update. |
| Your own site | Every recipe | All of them in one place, on my own site. |
The Design tab goes further, with templates (Music, Video, Profile and Link among them) that dress a card in your own words and background colour. A Custom card also lets you choose the text colour once it has a background. If that colour would be hard to read, the studio says so and your page draws white or dark text instead.
Hidden is not private
The studio lets you save a widget and keep it off your page. That hides it; it does not make it private. A hidden widget's link and words are saved with your page's settings, and those settings are public. Your page just does not draw it.
So do not add or save a private document link, an unlisted video or an unreleased track. If a link has to stay private, do not add or save it. Previewing a card in the studio does not send the link to MyBase; adding or saving it does.
Paste one and look
Open the Widget Studio, paste the link you want pressed first, and flip between desktop and phone.
You can try the studio now. To add cards to a page of your own, claim your handle.

FAQ
Which links play on my page?
An Instagram profile, and a video, track, post or pin from YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Spotify, SoundCloud, X and Pinterest. Everything else opens as a card: a branded card for a platform whose mark we carry, or a site card for any other website. That includes a Pinterest board or profile, and short share links such as pin.it and vm.tiktok.com.
Can I put a single Instagram post or reel on my page?
Not as a playing card. Instagram shows a single post or reel blank to visitors who are not signed in, so it does not play. It becomes a branded Instagram card that opens the link. Paste the profile and you get a grid of its latest posts.
Does an Apple Music link play?
No. It gets a branded card that opens the link. Spotify and SoundCloud links do play.
Will a card show my follower or like counts?
MyBase adds none: it fetches nothing from the platforms and prints no numbers on a card. Once a visitor presses a card, or has allowed embedded feeds, the platform's own player or grid shows whatever that platform normally shows there, which can include its own counts.
What about a Calendly or Cal.com link?
Pasted into the studio, it is a site card. For a booking button, use the Booking section in your page editor.
Is a hidden widget private?
No. Its link and words stay saved with your page's settings, and those are public.
